"Crickets" is a CD release by the endlessly inventive songwriter Robert Pollard, issued by the independent label Recordhead. Known as the creative force behind Guided by Voices and for his prolific solo output, Pollard once again delivers a collection of concise, hook-laden songs that balance lo-fi charm with sharp melodic instinct. On "Crickets," listeners can expect tightly written tracks, vivid lyrical imagery, and the unmistakable immediacy that has made his work a touchstone for indie and alternative rock fans. The album flows like a sequence of short stories in song form, alternating between punchy rock pieces and more reflective moments, creating a cohesive listening experience designed to be played from start to finish.
Pollard's distinctive voice and sense of structure are at the center of this CD, with songs that often reveal new layers on repeated listens. The arrangements focus on guitars, driving rhythms and memorable choruses, maintaining an intimate, almost homemade feel while never losing their sense of purpose or melody. The CD format underscores the album's character as a complete work: track sequencing and dynamics are thoughtfully arranged so that the energy rises and falls in just the right places, inviting the listener to engage deeply rather than dip in and out.
Robert Pollard is widely recognized for his role as frontman and principal songwriter of Guided by Voices, a band celebrated for its influential lo-fi and indie rock albums and a cult following that spans decades. Over the years he has released numerous solo records and side projects, building a reputation as one of the most productive and respected songwriters in underground rock. His catalog has inspired countless bands and continues to be cited as a reference point for inventive, melody-driven guitar music. "Crickets" fits squarely into this legacy, offering new material that resonates with both longtime fans and curious newcomers.
Recordhead, the manufacturer behind this release, operates as a dedicated independent label focused on high-quality physical editions for discerning music collectors. With an emphasis on careful mastering, solid pressing quality and thoughtfully designed packaging, Recordhead aims to present albums as lasting artifacts rather than disposable products. Their catalog highlights artists who value strong songwriting, individuality and long-term artistic development. By issuing "Crickets" on CD, Recordhead underscores its commitment to preserving the classic album experience and giving Robert Pollard's music the tangible presentation it deserves. | | | Producer: |
