Original LP (tracks 1 to 9) was released as Decca TXS 108 in March 1972."Shades Of A Blue Orphanage (Remastered+Expanded)" is a high-quality CD edition of Thin Lizzy's second studio album, originally released on the Decca label and here presented in a carefully remastered and expanded form. The recording captures an early, formative phase of the band in which their blend of rock, blues and folk-influenced elements was still developing, yet already marked by strong songwriting and emotional depth. This edition offers improved sound clarity and dynamic range compared to older issues, allowing the subtle details of the arrangements, the interplay of guitars and the distinctive vocal performance to come through more vividly. The expanded content (such as bonus material, depending on the exact configuration) provides a fuller picture of the sessions around the album and makes this CD particularly attractive for collectors and fans who want more than just the core tracklist.
Thin Lizzy, led for most of its career by bassist, singer and main songwriter Phil Lynott, is considered one of the important hard rock bands of the 1970s and early 1980s. The group became internationally known for its energetic twin-guitar sound and Lynott's poetic, often personal lyrics. Their breakthrough came a few years after this album with hits such as "The Boys Are Back in Town" and "Jailbreak", which established Thin Lizzy as a permanent fixture of classic rock radio and concert stages worldwide. Albums like "Jailbreak", "Johnny the Fox" and "Bad Reputation" are regarded as milestones of guitar-driven rock and have influenced numerous later bands. "Shades Of A Blue Orphanage" is therefore particularly interesting as a document of the band's early creative phase, in which many of the stylistic hallmarks that would later make them famous were already beginning to emerge.
The CD format offers convenient handling and durable playback quality, making this edition suitable both for everyday listening and for archiving in a well-curated music collection. The remastering on Decca's side is geared toward preserving the character of the original recordings while making them more accessible to modern ears, for example through clearer instrument separation and a more balanced overall sound image. Depending on the version, the expanded edition can also include additional tracks, alternative versions or single edits that round out the historical context of the album.
Decca is one of the most traditional record labels in the music industry and has been associated for decades with high production standards and a wide repertoire ranging from classical music and jazz to pop and rock. Releases on Decca are often valued by collectors and audiophiles for their sound quality and careful catalog maintenance. With "Shades Of A Blue Orphanage (Remastered+Expanded)", Decca underlines its commitment to preserving important rock catalog titles and making them available to a new generation of listeners in sonically refreshed form, while at the same time appealing to long-time fans with added value and attention to detail. | | | No. of tracks: |
