"Down On The Drag/Live Shots" est un coffret CD captivant de Joe Ely édité par Bgo Rec. Cette double sortie réunit l'album studio « Down on the Drag » de 1979 ' où se mêlent habilement country rock et influences tex-mex ' et le mythique album live « Live Shots », enregistré lors de sa tournée britannique en première partie des Clash en 1980 ; une expérience scénique intense qui fait date dans la carrière d'Ely et ravit les amateurs d'authenticité musicale sur scène comme en studio. Originaire du Texas, Joe Ely s'est imposé comme figure majeure de la musique américaine grâce à ses collaborations avec Bruce Springsteen ou Linda Ronstadt ainsi qu'au sein des Flatlanders aux côtés de Jimmie Dale Gilmore et Butch Hancock ; il est reconnu pour son style unique et ses textes poignants ayant marqué la scène americana contemporaine. Le label anglais Bgo Rec (Beat Goes On Records) s'est spécialisé dans les rééditions soignées d'albums cultes afin que ces 'uvres traversent les générations.
