| Description: | Gleny Rae Virus has been a fixture in the Australian roots/country scene for the past ten years, and her recent appearance on the acclaimed SBS reality documentary Go Back to Where You Came from television has touched an entirely new audience. As one of six participants in, Gleny retraced the steps of Iraqi refugees from their new home in Liverpool, Sydney through Kuala Lumpar, Amman Jordan back to Baghdad. "People contacted me to say thank you and to agree with my humanitarian attitudes towards refugees," she said. "I doubt many had heard my music, but one country music fan from Western Australia wrote of his frustration towards the general country music paradigm." Gleny Rae Virus may be subverting the dominant paradigm in more than one way, with the launch of her second full length CD Beyond Horizontal. Featuring the delightful musicianship of her two main "playboys" - Dougie Bull (double bass) and Roy Payne (guitar and lapsteel) - this album toys with traditional forms of western swing, bluegrass, gypsy jazz and rockabilly. The result is a collection of songs heavily influenced by the 40's and 50's Americana genres, but with a distinctly Australian narrative slant.Carrot V Bike: The recording took place at Robbie Long's Sound Ideas Studio.
