 | | Description: | The brazenly bold act of releasing a full-length album consisting of but two tracks is one of those things that permeate the artistic defiance and creative genius ever so strongly present in the band we've come to know as Moonsorrow. The progression towards even more lengthy, i.e. epic songs has been deductible from the past albums, but who would have known that the light-heartedly flaunted ideas about thirty minute tracks were not supposed to be surpassed as mere gibberish. Or megalomaniacal grandeur, either. This fifth album, opus, whatever, in the Moonsorrowian chronology is aptly named: "Chapter Five - Ravaged", quite clearly hinting that the over-all themes of the music and the lyrics have not swayed towards a lighter bearing. Quite the opposite, to be precise. Two new songs christened, nay, scalded as Born of Ice / Stream of Shadows and a Land Driven into the Fire weave tales even darker and more oppressing than ever before in the band's history.(P) Spikefarm Records | (C) Spin-Farm Ltd.

Issued in the super jewel case."Viides Luku - Hävitetty / Chapter V - Ravaged" is an epic CD release by Finnish band Moonsorrow on Spinefarm Records, presenting a monumental work of pagan/folk-influenced black metal. Built around sprawling song structures, this album unfolds as a long, atmospheric journey that blends raw heaviness with sweeping, almost cinematic passages. Acoustic interludes, choirs and traditional folk-inspired melodies are interwoven with powerful riffs and harsh vocals, creating a dense, immersive soundscape that feels both ancient and apocalyptic. The production emphasizes depth and dynamics, allowing the listener to sink into layers of guitars, choirs and keyboards while the songs evolve slowly and organically from quiet, brooding sections to overwhelming climaxes.
As a CD edition, this release is designed for listeners who appreciate the album as a coherent whole rather than a collection of singles. The track architecture is carefully conceived, inviting you to experience the record from start to finish in one uninterrupted flow. The physical format underlines the conceptual approach of Moonsorrow: artwork, booklet and layout typically contribute to the overall atmosphere and narrative of destruction, nature and mythology suggested by the title "Hävitetty / Ravaged". This is a disc for those who value long-form, narrative-driven extreme metal that rewards repeated, attentive listening.
Moonsorrow are known for their unique fusion of black metal intensity with Finnish folk elements and expansive, storytelling song structures. The CD is released by Spinefarm Records, a label recognized for its focus on heavy music and its role in supporting numerous influential Nordic metal bands.
