 | | Description: | In 1973, anthropologist John M. Bishop recorded music of the remote village of Melemichigaon, Nepal. With influence from Tibet, this Nepalese music is characterized by unison singing and occasional accompaniment on the damian, a stringed instrument in the lute family that provides a strong rhythmic base. The musicians generally sing in Helambu (a Sherpa-Tibetan dialect) and sometimes in Tibetan on themes of religion, a desire for material wealth, the natural landscape, and a "sense of an ordered world in contrast to the nomadic pattern of many peoples' lives" (Bishop). Liner notes include a description of the village and it's music, track notes, and lyrics in Helambu/Tibetan and English."Music Of A Sherpa Village / Va" on CD is a carefully curated audio journey into the sound world of traditional Sherpa life. This compilation gathers authentic field recordings and regional music that evoke the atmosphere of remote mountain villages: ritual chants, everyday songs, festive rhythms and intimate acoustic textures. Rather than focusing on a single star artist, the CD presents a varied stylistic palette - from meditative vocal pieces and simple instrumental patterns to more energetic group performances - offering a nuanced impression of a living musical culture. Ideal for listeners interested in ethnographic recordings, world music and contemplative soundscapes, this release invites you to experience the cadence of Sherpa traditions in an unadorned and respectful way. FOWY, as the manufacturer, positions itself as a label that values detail, sound quality and coherent curation. With a clear focus on thematically strong productions, FOWY places great importance on careful mastering and thoughtful presentation so that such cultural documents can be enjoyed both emotionally and analytically. This CD thus becomes not only a listening pleasure, but also a small cultural document for anyone who wants to get closer to the musical everyday life of a Sherpa village. | | | No. of tracks: |
