The album displays Catherine Wheel's early attempts to meld drone-drenched Shoegaze with Heavy Rock.
In 2016, Pitchfork ranked the album at number 23 in their list of "The 50 Best Shoegaze Albums of All Time". Featuring the hits `Salt?, `I Want To Touch You? and perhaps Catherine?s most famous single, the absolutely otherworldly `Black Metallic?. -
Digitally remastered and expanded edition of the British Shoegazer's 1992 debut album including six bonus tracks. Hailing from Great Yarmouth, Catherine Wheel were one of the original 'Shoegazer' bands and certainly the most popular, even scoring a U.S. hit with 'Black Metallic'. Produced by Talk Talk collaborator Tim Friese-Greene, Ferment features 'Shallow', 'I Want to Touch You', 'She's My Friend & 'Salt' as well as the aforementioned 'Black Metallic'. This edition comes expanded with six bonus recordings including the four 30 CenturyMan E.P. tracks, the non-album single 'Balloon' and live fan favorite 'Intravenous'. Cherry Red. 2010.
Mispress: Bonus tracks 12 through 17 seems to be sourced from vinyl with audible crackle and pops. Track 14 (That's When I Reach For My Revolver) is faulty, skipping numerous times mid-way through the song. This was corrected in a subsequent pressing: [r4116405]
