Recordings From The 1950s |
 | | Description: | Born in Grenada, Leslie A. Hutchinson achieved fame and success in London, as a performer who played the piano and sang and whose fans included royalty. Hutch was a protégé of Cole Porter who he met in Paris in the 1920s, and who taught him socially and intellectually, as well as about music, clothes and style. Two of the songs that Porter wrote for Hutch, "Let's Do It" and "Begin The Beguine" are included on this CD, and it was he who showed Hutch exactly how he wanted his songs played and performed. Hutch came to London in 1927 to appear in a West End revue. His fame grew in Britain through radio and personal appearances and he recorded over 600 songs for various British labels between the 1920s and 1954. This CD comprises the very last 78s Hutch made in the 1950s and most are appearing on CD for the first time."Hutch - The Prince Of Melody" is a carefully curated CD anthology that celebrates the elegant artistry of Leslie Hutchinson, one of the most sophisticated crooners and cabaret entertainers of the early 20th century. This collection brings together a selection of his most memorable recordings, highlighting his silky baritone voice, refined phrasing and effortlessly charming stage persona. The tracks showcase Hutch's mastery of romantic ballads and popular standards of his era, transporting the listener into the world of intimate nightclub performances and high-society soirées. Thanks to the CD format, these vintage recordings are presented in a clear, well-restored sound quality that preserves their nostalgic warmth while remaining enjoyable for today's audience.
Leslie Hutchinson, often simply known as Hutch, was a prominent figure of the interwar entertainment scene and became a symbol of class, charisma and musical finesse. He was renowned for his interpretations of love songs and sophisticated popular tunes, and for his ability to connect with audiences through subtle emotional nuance rather than vocal power alone. Over the years, Hutch built a loyal following in exclusive clubs and on radio, and his recordings helped define the sound of elegant cabaret singing for a whole generation. This CD offers an ideal introduction to his style, making it as appealing to long-time admirers as to listeners discovering his music for the first time.
