Jon Hazilla is an extraordinary leader/drummer. He's subtle, sensitive, and at the same time, he really directs the music & inspires response. His trio, with Bruce Barth on piano, and John Lockwood on bass, has a very mature, pleasing sound, never bland or harsh. This trio works hard both as individuals and as a collective. The recording evokes fond memories of Bill Evan's brilliant trio recordings from the late '50's & early '60's.
