 | | Description: | Ronald Tyson-Presson, Joe Freeman, Carl Enlow and Andrew Collins were the Ethics, a quartet of lead singers with Philadelphia roots. Tyson-Presson went on to sing with Love Committee before striking gold with the Temptations, where he's the longest running member next to Otis Williams. The Ethics were also one of the key groups to establish the Philly sound in the 1960s. This CD, originally released on the group's Wale label, includes their well-known songs like "Standing in the Darkness" as well as previously unreleased cuts that restore and enhance a reputation that reaches back over forty years."Best Of The Ethics" on CD presents a carefully curated collection of the most significant tracks by Ethics, offering an ideal entry point for new listeners and a compact best-of anthology for long-time fans. The compilation focuses on the project's most characteristic songs, bringing together their strongest melodic ideas, atmospheric arrangements and emotionally resonant moments in one coherent release. Across the album, a consistent musical identity emerges: tracks are structured with care, themes are clearly developed, and recurring stylistic signatures make the listening experience feel cohesive rather than like a random collection of singles. Thanks to the CD format, the sound is delivered in stable, reliable quality and invites listeners to experience the sequence of titles as a complete journey rather than isolated tracks.
Ethics stands for a musically thoughtful approach that values both feeling and structure. Characteristic elements include clear, memorable motifs, a strong sense of dynamics between quieter and more powerful passages, and a focus on mood that makes the songs suitable both for attentive listening and as a subtle soundtrack to everyday life. Over time, Ethics has built a profile that appeals to listeners who appreciate music with substance and emotional depth rather than purely superficial effect. Even without excessive mainstream exposure, the project has earned recognition in its niche through consistent quality and a distinctive artistic voice.
"Best Of The Ethics" highlights these strengths by concentrating on the most mature and well-developed works from the Ethics repertoire. The track selection is aimed at showcasing the range of the project - from more direct, accessible pieces to deeper, more atmospheric compositions - while still maintaining a recognizable common thread. The result is a best-of album that works both as a retrospective and as a compact portrait of what defines Ethics musically.
