"Extinct" is a CD album by the Portuguese dark metal band Moonspell, released under the renowned metal label Napalm Records. Musically, "Extinct" is a powerful blend of gothic metal, dark rock, and atmospheric elements, characterized by heavy yet melodic guitar work, orchestral arrangements, and the distinctive, dramatic vocals of Fernando Ribeiro. Lyrically, the album explores themes of mortality, loss, extinction--both personal and global--and the tension between despair and resistance. The songs unfold like a cinematic journey, moving from aggressive, riff-driven tracks to melancholic, introspective passages, always maintaining a dark, majestic mood. The production is modern and full, giving space to both the metallic edge and the lush symphonic layers, making "Extinct" accessible to fans of gothic, symphonic and extreme metal alike. For collectors and long-time fans, this CD edition is a key chapter in Moonspell's evolution, showing the band refining their sound while staying true to their dark roots.
Moonspell are one of the most influential metal bands to emerge from Portugal and a central name in gothic and dark metal worldwide. Founded in the early 1990s, they first attracted international attention with their seminal albums in the mid-90s and have since built a loyal global following through constant reinvention and strong, atmospheric records. Over the decades, Moonspell have toured extensively and shared stages with many major acts in the metal scene, earning a reputation for intense, theatrical live performances. Their discography spans raw blackened beginnings, rich gothic works and more experimental phases, which has kept them relevant and respected across different generations of metal fans. With "Extinct", Moonspell underline once more why they are considered a cornerstone band in their genre, capable of blending heaviness, melody and deep emotional content.
Napalm Records, the label behind this release, is one of the leading independent metal and rock labels worldwide. Based in Europe, the company has built a strong reputation for discovering and supporting high-quality metal, gothic and alternative artists, and for giving established bands a professional, artist-friendly home. Known for careful packaging, solid production standards and international promotion, Napalm Records helps albums like "Extinct" reach a broad audience of dedicated fans who value both musical depth and collectible physical editions.
Extinct was the best Moonspell album in years. Alpha Noir and Night Eternal did not comes close to this great album. It is, for sure, among their best records.

Moonspell come back to us with a single album, after the epic challenge of a double cd some years ago. Result is a more compact and solid opera, entirely inspired at this time but strongly intense in its first half: first 3~4 songs of extinct are pure golden age Moonspell sound, supported by a crystalline and at same time surrounding mixing. Song like the title track or medusalem or again breathe are on one side high quality radio hit. On other side they 're fine result of sincere inspiration and musical thoughts, miles over the risk of ghotic stereotypes. Second half of the album is same inspire and can reserve us a massive heavy song like dying breed or an interesting creation like the future is dark where I remember "the antidote " flavour meanwhile a scent of "irreligious" seems to give his blessing to the entire release. Definitively an excellent album. It deserves to mark the scene in this 2015.
