The album documents a powerful solo performance on pipe organ, captured in the resonant acoustic of St. Paul's Hall in Huddersfield. Instead of presenting traditional liturgical organ music, Zorn explores the instrument as a vehicle for soundscapes, clusters and long, slowly evolving tones that move between meditative calm and overwhelming intensity. The work is characterized by sustained drones, dense harmonies, abrupt contrasts and a ritual, almost mystical atmosphere that draws the listener into a deep, immersive listening experience. Fans of experimental, contemporary or improvised music will find an intense, uncompromising work that rewards concentrated listening and reveals new details with each spin.
John Zorn, born in 1953 in New York, is one of the most influential figures in contemporary experimental music. He is known for his genre-crossing work between jazz, classical, hardcore, klezmer, film music and radical improvisation. Over the decades, he has released a vast catalogue of albums, including milestone projects such as "Naked City", "Masada" and numerous film-music and chamber-music cycles. Zorn has been honored with prestigious awards, including a MacArthur "Genius Grant", and his compositions are performed worldwide. His organ works, including the "Hermetic Organ" series, occupy a special place in his oeuvre, revealing his fascination with the spiritual, the occult and the architectural dimension of sound.
The CD is released by Tzadik, an independent label founded and curated by John Zorn. Tzadik is dedicated to innovative, artist-driven music beyond the mainstream and has become one of the most important platforms for experimental, contemporary and avant-garde sounds. The label is known for its carefully produced releases, strong artistic concepts and a catalogue that ranges from radical improvisation and modern composition to Jewish music and genre-defying crossover projects. With "Hermetic Organ Vol. 3: St. Paul's Hall, Huddersfield", Tzadik once again presents a demanding and distinctive release that will appeal to adventurous listeners and collectors of ambitious, boundary-pushing music. | | | No. of tracks: |
