 | | Description: | Obsession '77 by Atomic Forest, released 19 January 2012, includes the following tracks: "Mary Long", "I Saw Her Standing There / Rock N' Roll Music Medley", "Butterfly Version 1", "Windmills Of Your Mind" and more.
This version of Obsession '77 comes as a 1xCD. - Digitally re-mastered edition of this album from the Indian Psychedelic/Hard Rock band. The album's mix of blistering, Fuzzy Rock and Synth-lead Funk inspired collectors the world over to fork over thousands of dollars for original copies of this until recently unknown platter. Part of the interest certainly stemmed from it's liberal doses of searing fuzz guitar. Unknown for years, Obsession '77 suddenly became a top want on every global-rock collector's short-list. Over the past four years, we at Now-Again Records have followed Atomic Forest's sounds and we've struck pay dirt. Now, with the full participation of founding member/vocalist Madhukar Chandra Dhas and lead-guitarist Abraham Mammen, we present Obsession. This anthology collects songs from Obsession '77, the band's follow up Hit Film Themes and unreleased studio and live recordings from Atomic Forest band members. The collected recordings of India's best-known psychedelic rock ensemble, and the story behind their genesis. 1973-1977.
Release comes in an oversized card slipcase. CD, which comes in its own card inner sleeve and a 48 page booklet both slot into the slipcase."Obsession '77" on CD presents the cult sound of Atomic Forest, one of the most intriguing psychedelic rock/funk bands to emerge from India's underground scene of the 1970s. On this carefully restored edition from NOW AGAIN, swirling fuzz guitars, hypnotic bass lines and heavy, groove-driven drums collide with a raw, almost garage-like production that captures the intensity of a group pushing the boundaries of rock, funk and psych at the time. The tracks unfold like a fever dream: long, winding instrumental passages, acid-soaked riffs and dense rhythmic patterns create an immersive listening experience that moves between heavy psychedelic rock, deep funk and cosmic jams. This CD edition places the album in a historical context and lets the listener dive into a rare chapter of global psychedelic music, far away from the usual Western canon yet equal in creativity and power.
Atomic Forest occupies a special place in the history of Indian rock. Active in the early to mid-1970s, the band became a cult name among collectors and aficionados of rare groove and psych rock when their elusive recordings began to surface on the international reissue circuit decades later. Although they did not achieve mainstream success at the time of recording, their music has since been celebrated for its unique blend of Western psychedelic influences and local musical sensibilities, making them a touchstone for enthusiasts of global psych, funk and hard rock obscurities. Their growing reputation is built on the scarcity of original pressings, inclusion on influential compilations and the passionate response of listeners discovering them anew through labels like NOW AGAIN.
NOW AGAIN is renowned for its archival work, focusing on rediscovering lost, overlooked or previously unreleased gems from the worlds of funk, soul, psych, jazz and global grooves. The label approaches each release with the care of a musical historian: high-quality remastering, detailed liner notes and contextual essays that illuminate the stories behind the recordings. With "Obsession '77", NOW AGAIN continues its mission to bring essential but under-documented artists to a wider audience, ensuring that seminal recordings from scenes outside the mainstream--such as India's 1970s rock underground--are preserved and heard in the best possible sound. This CD is therefore not only a powerful listening experience but also an important document for collectors, DJs and anyone interested in the hidden histories of psychedelic and funk music. | | | No. of tracks: |
