 | | Description: | 2017 release, the 18th album from the thrash metal kings. With 17 releases under their belt since 1985, Overkill is one of the most prolific thrash bands in the world with millions of albums sold world-wide. "The Grinding Wheel" will be the band's eighteenth release and their first on Nuclear Blast America. The Grinding Wheel is a record on which thrash's ultimate team of five machined parts shows up and executes to perfection... with a little punk thrown in for bad measure. But a life dedicated to metal can be a grind, hence the title of this sparks-a-flyin' record. "It just makes sense for us," reflects D.D. "If you've been making metal for almost 40 years like we have, it can be a grind. But we also liked the old school metal idea of referencing "Grinder," the Judas Priest song, which suits the album because it has classic metal parts on it as well as the thrash parts. There's a blue collar feel to that title too, and that's how we approach Overkill. The guitar case is basically a lunchbox and we go to work."CD comes with a 16-page booklet in a standard jewel case

HYUNGRAE K. - 06/Apr/2026 This album is absolutely amazing! Overkill has been around almost 37 years (formed in 1980) and are still kicking ass with new cds! There is some new elements in this album that I would love for them to explore more in their future cds. The production is top notch as well! I was a little skepctial about the artwork and album name, but after listening to it I get it and enjoy it a lot more. If you are a fan of Overkill at all or even just a thrash fan (old or new) get this album, you will uncontrollably bang you head!
| | Goran M. - 13/Mar/2024 Overkill continues to grind your eardrums as they did 30 years since. You cannot miss with this album. They're Mean, green, killing machine. One Finest Hour of thrashing metal Grinding Wheel!
| | Yuriy P. - 15/Dec/2020 “There is still gunpowder in the flasks,” many will say. And I will say that this gunpowder was scattered over the casings flying out of a large-caliber machine gun leading continuous fire. It is with him that I associate the new album of the best thrash metal band of all time in my subjective opinion.
The shortest comment on this album is Overkill. In perfect balance, the listener is bombarded with fury and directness, melody and tempo changes, dull pressure and thoughtful arrangements, all under the excellent sound and high-quality work of the musicians. Bobby Ellsworth - my compliments, everything in tune with the music, and more. The last song (not counting the cover) will also bring down pure epicness on you, so much so that on the last notes you involuntarily think - are they exactly more than 50 years old?
To summarize, this album contains everything that people love about trash, and everything that should be in trash. The old men really did ignite, and without any obvious associations with anything else. Someone may find the album secondary or uninteresting - but personally, I blissed out from the first to the last song, frankly there are no passages among them. For me personally, this is a dozen, but to be more objective, it is 8 points. After all, only one killing hit, "Goddamn Trouble", is straightforward, and the world of trash has not yet degraded enough to say that no one will reach the high bar of "The Grinding Wheel" in 2017. And this is, perhaps, excellent.
