 | | Description: | Us Hot 100 3rd Feb. 1959: The Day The Music Died is a compilation of 100 pop tracks released as 4-CD on 7 Mar 2019. Us Hot 100 3rd Feb. 1959: The Day The Music Died includes a.o. the following tracks: ??Platters - Smoke Gets In Your Eyes?, ??Ritchie Valens - Donna?, ??Clyde Mcphatter - A Lover's Question?, ??Jack Scott - Goodbye Baby? and more. - .. 1959: THE DAY THE MUSIC DIEDAs adjuncts to our highly popular "America's Greatest Hits" series of collections for each calendar year in the 50s and early '60s, we have already produced collections based on landmark moments in the Billboard charts - "The First Top 100 Nov. 1955" (ACQCD7062), "The First Hot 100 Aug. 1958" (ACQCD7083), "The First Hot 100 of the '60s" (ACQCD7097), and "The 'Heartbreak Hotel' Top 100" (ACQCD7122) each comprising all the records in the Top 100 for the date in question. This collection commemorates the 60th anniversary of another significant musical landmark, and comprises the complete Top 100 on the date when Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens and The Big Bopper died when their light aeroplane crashed in Clear Lake, Iowa, when travelling between tour dates. The event later became known as "The Day The Music Died" after singer/songwriter Don McLean described it in this way in his 1971 No. 1 hit "American Pie". For countless music fans, it certainly represented a genuine tragedy, since Buddy Holly in particular had proved himself to one the great songwriters and influential performers of the rock 'n' roll era, and caused the inevitable question to be asked as to what he might have gone on to achieve. Interestingly, of the three artists who died so tragically, only Ritchie Valens had records in this particular chart, but inevitably the Top 100 from that time is a fascinating and entertaining snapshot of that moment, including many musical obscurities and one-hit-wonders not widely available on CD, which give a fascinating insight into the music of the time. It contains a 12,000+ word booklet featuring"The US Hot 100 3rd Feb. 1959" on CD by Acrobat and Various Artists is a meticulously curated snapshot of the American singles charts at the dawn of the 1960s. This compilation brings together a broad cross-section of the Hot 100 as it stood in early February 1959, capturing the transition from classic rock 'n' roll and doo-wop to the smoother pop, vocal and early teen-idol sounds that would dominate the airwaves. Expect a stylistic journey through chart hits and rarities of the era: driving rock and roll, romantic ballads, vocal harmony groups, rhythm & blues crossovers and orchestral pop all sit side by side, mirroring what US listeners actually heard on the radio that week. The focus lies on authenticity and historical context rather than just recycling the same few evergreens; this disc is designed for collectors, historians of popular music and anyone who wants to experience the real flavour of the late-'50s Hot 100. Acrobat is known as a specialist reissue label that pays particular attention to sound restoration and detailed annotation. Their releases typically feature carefully remastered audio from the best available sources and are compiled with respect for original chart data and period detail. With "The US Hot 100 3rd Feb. 1959", Acrobat once again delivers a well-researched, stylistically diverse time capsule that showcases the richness and breadth of American popular music at a key historical moment. | | | No. of tracks: |
