 | | Description: | Formed in Essen, Germany in 1982, Kreator are arguably the most influential and successful European thrash metal band ever; like many of their European speed metal brethren, Kreator fused Metallica's thrash innovations with Venom's proto-black metal imagery. Often referred to as one of the "Big 4" of Teutonic thrash metal, and they are often credited with helping pioneer death metal and black metal by containing several elements of what was to become those genres. The band has achieved worldwide sales of over two million units for combined sales of all their albums, making them one of the best-selling German thrash metal bands of all time. The band's style has changed several times over the years, from a Venom-inspired speed metal sound, later moving in to thrash metal, and including a period of transitioning from thrash to industrial metal and gothic metal throughout the 1990s. In the early 2000s, Kreator returned to their classic thrash sound, which has continued to the present. With hindsight, and a sense of history, Outcast is certainly one of Kreator's most inventive and important albums. The German gargantuan-watt gladiators' eighth studio release was different to anything they'd done in the past, during a time when metal was in turmoil due to the grunge and Nu Metal explosions. L'album alterne entre riffs rapides et tranchants, parties mid-tempo puissantes et passages plus atmosphériques, tout en conservant la voix agressive et caractéristique de Mille Petrozza. Les textes explorent des thèmes comme l'isolement, le malaise intérieur et le déclin social, ce qui confère à l'ensemble une cohérence dramatique forte. Grâce à une production qui met en évidence la précision des guitares, la batterie compacte et un son moderne mais rugueux, ce CD offre une écoute intense et immersive. Il conviendra autant aux collectionneurs qui souhaitent compléter la discographie du groupe qu'aux nouveaux auditeurs désireux de découvrir la facette plus expérimentale de Kreator pendant les années 1990.
Kreator compte parmi les formations les plus influentes du thrash metal européen et est considéré comme l'un des piliers du « Teutonic thrash ». Au fil de nombreuses années et de plusieurs albums devenus des références pour les amateurs de metal extrême, le groupe a façonné un style immédiatement reconnaissable et a inspiré de nombreux artistes à travers le monde. Leur réputation s'appuie également sur des concerts particulièrement intenses et une présence constante sur les scènes internationales. La capacité de Kreator à faire évoluer sa musique tout en restant fidèle à son identité a permis au groupe de conserver une place de choix dans le paysage metal, bien au-delà de sa période de débuts.
Ce CD est édité par Noise Records, un label qui a joué un rôle déterminant dans l'essor et la diffusion internationale du heavy metal européen, en particulier du thrash allemand. Noise Records s'est illustré en soutenant très tôt des groupes qui deviendront par la suite majeurs, leur offrant une structure et une visibilité à une époque où ce genre restait très underground. De nombreux disques publiés par le label sont aujourd'hui considérés comme des classiques.
