- Eine faszinierende musikalische Momentaufnahme jener Zeit, die viele Sammler unserer Top
100- und America's Greatest Hits-Serie ansprechen wird - .. 25TH JANUARY 1962As adjuncts to our highly popular "America's Greatest Hits" series of collections for each calendar year in the 50s and early '60s, we have already produced collections based on landmark moments in the Billboard charts - "The First Top 100 Nov. 1955" (ACQCD7062), "The First Hot 100 Aug. 1958" (ACQCD7083), "The First Hot 100 of the '60s" (ACQCD7097), "The 'Heartbreak Hotel' Top 100" (ACQCD7122)and "The Day The Music Died - Feb 3rd 1959 Hot 100" (ACQCD7134) and "The 'Telstar' Hot 100 December 22nd 1962" (ACQCD7144) each comprising the records in the Top 100 for the date in question. This collection celebrates a notable chart event of January 1962, namely when Chubby Checker's record "The Twist" topped the US pop charts for the second time, signalling the approaching peak of the worldwide Twist dance craze - he had first made No.1 well over a year earlier, in September 1960, since which time the dance had started to catch on all round the world. This collection comprises just about all the records in the Billboard Hot 100 of that week (one record is unavailable for copyright reasons) and it provides a fascinating and evocative snapshot of the music scene at what was already a dynamic and transitional time, with The Beatles' first UK hit only nine months away. It includes seven Twist hits which underline the popularity of the dance. It's a window onto a vibrant and exciting musical environment, and includes a number of unfamiliar names and recordings of which even pop enthusiasts may not be too aware, and which will be welcome additions to their collections. It contains a 12,000+ word booklet featuring background notes on every record.Great-Value 4-CD Set Comprising Records From The US HOT 100 Of January 13th, 1962.
The US Chart When Chubby Checker's "The Twist" Went Back To No. 1 To Herald The Peek Of The Twist Era
This collection comprises all the records in HOT 100 in chart order except #16 Baby It's You by The Shirelles (Scepter 1227) due to copyright reasons."The 'Twist' Hot 100 25th January 1962" on CD presents a meticulously compiled snapshot of the early-1960s pop landscape at the height of the twist craze. Focusing on the Hot 100 chart from 25 January 1962, this collection brings together a broad cross-section of hits that were defining radio playlists and dance floors at the time. Listeners can expect a lively mix of rock 'n' roll, twist-focused dance numbers, early soul, doo-wop, teen pop and smooth vocal tracks, reflecting both the enduring influence of 1950s styles and the emerging sound of the new decade. The track selection underlines the energy and rhythmic drive that made the twist a global dance phenomenon, while also capturing more melodic and romantic songs that shared the charts with the dance hits. This makes the CD ideal both as a nostalgic time capsule and as an introduction to the variety of popular music just before the British Invasion.
Because this is a various-artists compilation, the emphasis lies on the stylistic breadth and historical context rather than on individual performers. The sequence of titles mirrors the diversity of the original Hot 100: uptempo twist tracks sit alongside ballads, R&B-inflected tunes, and pop instrumentals, offering a complete listening experience rather than a narrowly focused twist-only set. The running order evokes the feel of flipping through a 1962 jukebox, moving from one catchy single to the next. Collectors and music historians will appreciate the chart-based concept, which helps to place each recording precisely in its era, while casual listeners will enjoy a flowing, danceable playlist that works perfectly for retro-themed parties or relaxed listening.
The CD format ensures convenient access to all tracks in consistent, reliable sound quality, often superior to aging vinyl singles that originally carried many of these songs. The compilation concept is also well suited for listeners who want to experience the music as it would have been heard at the time, with big hits and lesser-known gems side by side. Packaging from Acrobat typically features informative liner notes and clear track listings; where provided, these notes often offer chart information and concise background on the era, enhancing the historical value of the release.
Acrobat is a specialist label known for its archival work and carefully curated catalogue of vintage recordings, particularly in genres such as jazz, early rock 'n' roll, R&B and vocal pop. The label focuses on preserving important periods in music history by assembling thematically coherent compilations from original recordings, often organised around charts, key artists, or specific eras. With releases aimed at both enthusiasts and newcomers, Acrobat has built a reputation for good value, thoughtful programming and a respect for the musical heritage it presents. "The 'Twist' Hot 100 25th January 1962" fits neatly into this philosophy, offering a focused, historically grounded look at a defining moment in early-1960s popular music. | | | No. of tracks: |
