Pieces For Baritone And Organ / Works By Grandi |
 | | Description: | Cantabo Domino is an album by Klaus / Dmitri Grigoriev Mertens, released in 2022. The album is a Super Audio Cd classical CD. - PIECES FOR BARITONE AND ORGAN / WORKS BY GRANDIAn excellent master of his craft (M. Harras). For four decades, bass-baritone Klaus Mertens has been acclaimed by critics in concerts and nearly 200 album recordings as "unearthly radiant" (klassik. Com), "wonderfully slender, clearly delineating" (mdr Figaro) and "unchanged fresh and immensely homogeneous" (klassik. Com) for his interpretations of music ranging from early to avant-garde. Dmitri Grigoriev was born in 1979 in Leningrad and studied organ and piano after private lessons at the conservatories in St. Petersburg and Kazan, where he completed his studies in 2007 with the state concert exam. The two musicians play music from "three centuries" on this album. Cantor Dmitri Grigoriev and Klaus Mertens deliberately chose a program for this project that, on the one hand, takes into account the diverse colors and possibilities of the so special organ on site, and on the other hand, is able to provide a small but subtle insight into sounds and styles of vocal music over three centuries."Cantabo Domino: Werke für Bariton mit Orgelbegl." in the hybrid format "SACD+CD" presents an intimate and highly focused recital for baritone and organ, interpreted by Klaus Mertens and Dmitri Grigoriev. The programme is devoted to sacred works that explore the dialogue between the human voice and the organ's rich tonal palette, ranging from meditative, prayer-like pieces to more dramatic, declamatory settings. The high-resolution SACD layer captures the full spatial depth of voice and instrument, while the standard CD layer guarantees compatibility with any conventional player, making this edition both audiophile and practical. Carefully conceived booklet texts and a recording that pays special attention to the natural acoustics of the church space turn this release into a contemplative listening experience that rewards both focused attention and repeated hearings.
At the heart of this album stands baritone Klaus Mertens, renowned in the early-music and oratorio world for his stylistic clarity, impeccable diction and expressive subtlety. Known in particular for his long-standing engagement with the music of J. S. Bach and other baroque masters, he has built an international reputation on historically informed yet deeply personal interpretations. His wide discography and collaborations with leading ensembles have made him one of the most respected German baritones in sacred and concert repertoire. Organist Dmitri Grigoriev provides an equally distinguished and sensitive partnership at the console, shaping registrations and colours that respond closely to every nuance of the vocal line and highlighting the spiritual architecture of the works.
The SACD+CD configuration underlines Ars Produktion's commitment to high-quality sound and thoughtful repertoire curation. Based in Germany, Ars Produktion has developed a strong profile in classical and jazz recordings, often focusing on carefully selected artists and acoustically outstanding venues. The label is widely appreciated among connoisseurs for its refined engineering, natural sound image and the courage to spotlight distinctive programmes off the beaten path. With "Cantabo Domino: Werke für Bariton mit Orgelbegl.", Ars Produktion once again demonstrates its strength in presenting chamber-like sacred music in a way that is both sonically impressive and artistically coherent.
For collectors of vocal and organ music, this release offers an opportunity to experience the rarely highlighted combination of solo baritone and organ in a concentrated, spiritually charged setting. The nuanced interplay between Mertens and Grigoriev brings out the rhetorical character of the texts and the architectural breadth of the organ writing, inviting listeners into a sound world that is at once introspective and richly colourful. Whether enjoyed via a high-end SACD system or a standard CD player, this production is designed to reveal the full expressive range of the repertoire and the performers. | | | Manufacturer No.: |
