Description:
At The Drolma Wesel-Ling Monastery by Howie Lee, released 26 April 2024.
This version of At The Drolma Wesel-Ling Monastery comes as a 1xLP. -
Vinyl LP pressing. Recorded over two weeks at Drolma Wesel-Ling Monastery in the mountains of Tibet at the invitation of monastery founder TUGA RINPOCHE, the Beijing based artist/producer Howie Lee combines Tibetan Vajrayana Buddhist singing with glitched out modern electronics.
"At The Drolma Wesel-Ling Monastery" is an adventurous LP by Beijing-born electronic innovator Howie Lee, released by the forward-thinking label Mais Um Discos. Across the album, Lee blends experimental club music with atmospheric sound design, field-recording textures and melodic fragments that draw on East Asian traditions without ever falling into cliché. Dense, bass-rich rhythms meet shimmering, ritual-like motifs and spacious ambient passages, creating the impression of a speculative soundtrack to a monastery that exists somewhere between past and future. The sequencing is deliberate: tracks glide from hypnotic, slow-burning pieces into more percussive, fractured moments, giving the LP a narrative arc that rewards deep listening on vinyl from start to finish.
As a producer, Howie Lee has become known on the global underground for his highly individual fusion of Chinese sonic references with cutting-edge electronic production. He has released music on respected international labels, remixed a wide range of artists and performed at clubs and festivals worldwide, positioning himself as one of the most distinctive voices in contemporary experimental club culture. His work often pushes beyond dance-floor functionality into immersive audio-visual performances and conceptual projects, and this LP continues that trajectory: it's as suitable for concentrated listening at home as it is for adventurous DJ sets and sound-art contexts.
Mais Um Discos is a label dedicated to showcasing forward-thinking music from around the world, with a strong focus on artists who challenge stylistic boundaries and bring new perspectives to contemporary sounds. Known for carefully curated releases and high production standards, the label has introduced many listeners to scenes and musicians that might otherwise remain under the radar. With "At The Drolma Wesel-Ling Monastery", Mais Um Discos once again underlines its role as a platform for artists who expand the vocabulary of global electronic music, offering an LP that will appeal to fans of adventurous, genre-defying sounds and collectors who appreciate thoughtfully presented vinyl editions.
