Description:
"Unfolding" is a CD by Canadian violinist and composer Jessica Moss, released on the respected independent label Constellation / Cargo. On this album, Moss continues to expand her distinctive sonic world, in which amplified violin, carefully layered loops and subtle electronic processing merge into an immersive, emotionally charged experience. Long-form pieces unfold slowly, building from intimate, almost whispered motifs into dense, orchestral walls of sound that remain organic and humane at every moment. The music navigates between experimental ambient, post-classical and drone, with clear roots in post-rock aesthetics, yet always guided by a strong melodic sense and narrative tension. "Unfolding" feels like a single, continuous journey: themes reappear in transformed shapes, harmonies open and contract, and rhythms surface gently from the background, giving the album an arc that rewards deep, attentive listening. This CD edition offers the ideal format for fully entering Moss's sound universe, where each track evolves patiently and reveals ever new layers with every spin.
Jessica Moss is known both as a solo artist and for her long-standing involvement in the Montreal music scene, especially in projects around Constellation Records. Her work often focuses on the expressive power of the violin beyond classical boundaries: she treats the instrument as voice, drone generator and noise source in equal measure, weaving it into rich, cinematic soundscapes. Over the years she has built a reputation for intense live performances and deeply personal, politically and emotionally resonant compositions. Her solo albums have been praised in the experimental and post-rock communities for their originality and emotional depth, securing her a dedicated international following and regular invitations to festivals and cross-genre collaborations.
Constellation / Cargo stands for uncompromising independent music with a strong artistic vision. Based in Montreal, Constellation has become synonymous with detailed production, carefully curated releases and a clear aesthetic identity spanning post-rock, experimental, contemporary classical and related genres. Their catalogue is known for high-quality physical editions and a strong focus on album coherence as an art form in itself. Cargo handles distribution with the same care, ensuring that ambitious, boundary-pushing music finds its audience worldwide. With "Unfolding", this partnership once again underlines its commitment to artists who explore new paths far removed from the mainstream and who see the album as a cohesive, immersive work rather than a mere collection of tracks.
