Rodion Shchedrin employs a colourful mix of antique, modern and folk sounds these nostalgic tone poems. Evoking childhood memories and impressions of nature and bucolic life, his music is accesible without crossover vulgarities. Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra under young conductor Kirill Karabits is captured in vivid sound and the presentation is exemplary.
