| | Description: | Der gnadenlose Kampf der Eisenbahngesellschaften gegen die ansässigen Siedler liefert den dramatischen Hintergrund für dieses einzigartige Westernepos ...Ein rätselhafter Fremder (Charles Bronson) trifft am Bahnhof eines staubigen Wüstennestes ein. Er spricht kaum ein Wort, doch seiner Mundharmonika entlockt er eine unheimliche Melodie, die jedem Angst einjagt. Der Fremde hat noch eine Rechnung mit dem Killer Frank (Henry Fonda) zu begleichen... Frank ebnet dem Eisenbahn-Tycoon Morton den Weg nach Westen. Er legt dabei jeden kaltblütig um, der seine Pläne durchkreuzt. Anfangs wird der Bandit Cheyenne (Jason Robards) dieser brutalen Morde verdächtigt. Und auch der Mundharmonikaspieler glaubt zunächst an Cheyennes Schuld. Doch bald weiß er, wer der wahre Täter ist: Frank, jener Mann, den er schon seit Jahren sucht.
