Environmental protection and sustainability are very important to us, GROOVES.LAND/PLAYTHEK. For this reason, over the last 15 years we have taken various actions to make our contribution:
Climate Neutral Website
It only takes a few clicks through our huge grooves.land/playthek catalogue until you hold your desired item in your hands, at your home. You are able to enjoy a service that was
unheard only 20 years ago. But the service of our web and database servers in computing centres takes a lot of energy. Every search query and every visit to a website by one of our customers causes CO2 emissions. While we use 100% green electricity in our facilities, we unfortunately neither have influence on the type of electricity our customers use when they visit our website nor in the computing center. Luckily, there is another way: we aim to set a sign and, in cooperation with certified and TÜV-tested company First Climate, turn our website into a climate-neutral website. For example, we support a climate protection project that buys new forest areas in Peru in order to save the local Amazon forest from deforestation. Our donation not only helps climate protection but also benefit the local population. Here you can find out more about the project we support, which is VCS and CCBS certified and which creates an annual emission reduction of over 2 million tons of CO2.
100% green electricity in our facilities since 2004
 Electricity is one of the largest producers of the climate-damaging gas carbon dioxide (CO2). Therefore, it is a guiding principle for us to protect our environment by generating as little climate killer CO2 as possible. That is why all of our facilities are supplied by 100% certified green electricity from wind, solar and hydro power since 2004.
Sustainable high performance Internet servers
We rely on high-performance servers to keep our Internet servers up for running our online shop. A total of 7 servers ensure an uninterrupted access to our online shop in cluster operation. Our servers are equipped with Intel XEON Dual CPUs and with 24 or 32 threads per server are able to handle hundreds of thousands of requests simultaneously to guarantee a fast access time of a few milliseconds per page. Such high-performance server systems usually require a very large amount of energy. Plus, ancillary systems, such as routers/switches, air conditioning systems, etc., that are needed to operate those servers, also require 24-hour power. The energy we use in our data centre is sourced from 100% green electricity, which is generated in sustainable plants from renewable energies.
Packaging regulations
300% Dual system on a voluntary basis
The Dual System in Germany is a very important step towards protecting our environment by recycling important raw materials. Germany runs a mandatory system which stipulates that a company must participate in a dual system to reuse and reduce packaging material that was placed on the national market for the first time. We take on even more
 responsibility and voluntarily commit ourselves above and beyond the legally required level to the total amount of packaging material that we put into circulation worldwide (both the material used for the first time as well as recycled material). Why do we do this? Every year, thousands of tons of packaging material swamp Germany from foreign suppliers and companies that do not participate in the dual system. At this point, we take responsibility and voluntarily valorize such materials by integrating them into the dual system. We currently pay 3 times more into the dual system than we would be obliged to under German legislation.
Recycled packaging material
Our logistic centre uses a 27-metre-long, fully automated packaging line, that packs our items at a rate of 1.200 orders per hour. The packaging line is not only supplied with 100% green electrictiy, but is also equipped with 100% recycled packaging material specially made for us.
10% of our orders include items that have to be packed manually outside the packaging line due to their size or shape. However, we also make extensive use of recycled materials for those 10%. For example, since 2017, we only use recycled (secondary use) filling material for our shipments. The machines we used to produce plastic filling material have been decommissioned since and are no longer used.

For ten years now, forest areas the size of more than three football pitches are being destroyed every minute on average, in the Brazilian Amazon Basin alone. This means that not only trees are disappearing, but also numerous animal species, including those that we may not even have discovered and got to know. In order to protect this most important habitat on our planet, we have concluded a sponsorship agreement to protect it. More information can be found here.

The World Wide Fund For Nature (WWF) is a Swiss foundation based in Gland, Canton Vaud. It was formed in 1961 and is one of the largest international nature and environmental protection organisations. WWF is committed to the conservation of the Earth's biological diversity, the sustainable use of natural resources and the containment of environmental pollution and harmful consumer behaviour. WWF has repeatedly received awards for its transparency, efficiency and organisation. We therefore donate a fixed amount each month to support WWF Germany in its important work.
